Dreams.

Sorry I haven't been around much. Been tired/having headaches, but I promise to get back in the swing of things.

Let me tell you a tale, the story of my past week, a week filled with frightening murders, debauchery, owls with machine guns, rabbits flying aeroplanes, sex, sex, guns, sex...

Well, I'll tell you about all that next time. In the meanwhile...

I saw my doctor the other day and he recommended that I try melatonin when I'm having headaches that prevent me from falling asleep at my usual hours. We talked about literature too, he told me he was reading Tocqueville, and I was very happy to hear that, can't read enough of the French writers, that's what I say!

I tried the melatonin for the first time a couple nights ago and it seemed to work well, I slept a good long time. Although I did wake up once because I had a creepy nightmare (and I haven't had a nightmare, at least a memorable one, since I was a little kid, wait a sec, that's a lie, I had a nightmare about sharks a couple weeks ago... you think I kid but it's true). I tried the melatonin again the next night, and again I slept well, except I had another nightmare, and this one really flipped me out. When I woke up, I felt like I never wanted to go back to sleep again...

The problem is, I can't perfectly remember the dream, but all I know is that I haven't felt that chilled and frightened in ages. The most frightening aspect of the dream was the atmosphere. Actually, in both nightmares I had, there was this sense of impending doom and terrifying suspense, this possibility of great unknown terror striking at any moment... I think that was the scariest part.

I do remember some parts of the last nightmare I had... I was in a house, the setting was late at night, everything was dark except for some blue moonlight. Pretty standard set for a bad horror movie I guess (my mind isn't very original in its attempts to create nightmares?).

So, I'm in this random house, in the middle of a big room on the first floor. Looking up I expected to find a ceiling, but there wasn't one, or at least I didn't see one, all I saw were staircases that led up and up into the darkness. The room I was in was huge, and there were playpens and fences (why, I have no clue), and I think there were people, but I can't remember what they looked like, oh, I do remember one of the people was a coworker from one of my jobs years ago... she was kinda crazy. I don't know what the hell she was doing in my dream, I barely knew her and I haven't seen or thought of her in ages. Maybe she paid admission to get into my dream? Which reminds me, feel free to send me $50 and I promise you the privilege of a guest appearance in one of my dreams...

As I'm looking around, I somehow get caught in one of the fences, and by some weird terrible miracle a necklace of shrunken heads got wrapped around my neck. The physics of my dream was a little weird, I don't know where the shrunken heads came from nor how I got 'stuck' in the fence. Anyways, as I'm stuck on the ground, immobolized by the shrunken head necklace, this is the point I realize something truly terrible is about to happen. As I mentioned some parts of the room were lit by moonlight, but the room was so big that there were large sections filled with darkness (oh, how scary!).

So, I have this realization that something is coming to get me, something from the darkness, but I woke up before I got a chance to see what the thing was. I was hugely disappointed, talk about getting ripped off. I was waiting for the payoff... getting to see my head chopped off in my own dream would've been pretty cool.

Plus I can't believe there weren't any machete wielding animals in this dream... does my subconscious not have the power to create that sort of wacky stuff???

Nightmares...

...Serious business.

Whats annoying about dreams is the lack of control. We can usually only watch on and feel powerless. And thats not gangsta when your strapped to a fence waiting on 'certain' doom.

They say that if you die in a dream you wont wake up... Maybe thats why people wake up before it gets too gory? I dunno.

Welcome back Seb.

You say dreams, I say nightmares!

Melatonin gives me headaches. I don't remember having any nightmares though!

I once heard if you saw your death in a dream, you died. So maybe you should be happy not to see the ending!

Now, take care of yourself, drink lots of water! Lots!

Have a fabulous weekend!I miss seeing your art!

ha-ha I see AK man wrote the same thing.

I was trying to remember if the reason you die is from fright, or if is turns into s self fulfilled prophecy.

I think it is because once death sees you , death knows your name.

I appear in nightmares for free, provided that my name is first when the credits roll.

Melatonin made me depresed---it decreases seratonin, which might have something to do with the dreams.
I would love to sit in on one of your dreams, if it is anything like your drawings.

This kind of thing happens to me with my anxiety medication from time to time. I must say, I'm pretty lucky though, 'cause I never really have trouble falling asleep as I'm always busy enuff to make myself tired.

I wanna know about that debaucherous week though! HAHA! Sounds RAD!

Maybe you ought to stop taking the meltonin. Perhaps there's something else out there you can try that won't cause you to have nightmares.

What position do you usually sleep in? I've learned that if I sleep on my back (or at least start off sleepign on my back), I have some startling dreams. My mom taught me to sleep on my stomach to prevent having disturbing dreams. It also helps the stomach digest food during the night. I just learned that a few months ago.

Ak-man: Yeah, the lack of control in dreams is perturbing! Wonder why we can't control it, I've heard some people can, it takes some practice I guess...

Katie: I've heard about that, so it's probably good not to have that happen in the dream... Hope you are having a good weekend too! I am drinking lots of water!

Mist1: You must pay for a guest appearance!!!

Taarzaan: Haha thanks! Yeah, I felt a little funny the next day after taking melatonin.

Heatherness: That would be the worst of all possible things!

WAT: I wish I had crazy debauchery to talk about! Soon enough, soon enough, muahhahaha....

Silver: I'm not going to take it very often, but we'll see...

Tara: I always sleep on my back. I'd sleep on my stomach but I just can't get comfortable like that! Interesting though, never heard of that...

Who do I make the check out to in order to appear in your dreams/nightmares? Do I have to pay extra if I want to be wielding the machete?

Aprill: Hmmm, no, I won't charge extra if you want to wield a machete, but please, you must be my friend and not my enemy in the dream!

Babybull: Thanks! Hmmm, I don't know if that's possible...

Jos: Thanks Jos! Yeah, I really don't have many nightmares, that's why it was weird having them. They're kinda fun though in a way...

I love the idea of charging people admission to be in your dreams! But you should tell people that just like they don't usually remember their dreams when they wake up they won't remember having been in your dream either! This way you won't get sued.

That is a great idea! I'll have them sign a waiver.

The melatonin is good. Nice of your Doc not to simply dispense more pharma. Headaches have a variety of causes. Two more things to try include rubbing peppermint oil on your temples. Peppermint is a topical analgesic-- plus, the soothing aroma provides an "aromatherapy" benefit.
The other thing is placing a small pinch of ground cayenne pepper under your tongue, which will help dialate your capillaries. Some types of headaches are caused by capillary constriction.

2-3 times per year I get blinding migranes. I don't feel pain, but my vision is affected. The cayenne thing handles this for me very quickly. Peppermint sometimes helps my ordinary type headaches, and sometimes it doesn't. In a hot/dry climate like yours, some headaches may result from salt & potassium depletion. Not that you are working hard outdoors all day, but a little salt, a potassium supplement and plenty of water can help some headaches.

Ginko gives me headaches, so I can't use that supplement for alertness. CoQ-10 is good for focus and alertness without side effects associated with "herbal" stimulants. It's also a powerful antioxident. Idebenone is a cheaper substitute for Q-10.

JP: Thanks so much for the recommendations. I will definitely try those out, sounds like some really great ideas.
