New Drawing. Music Stuff. Deadliest Catch.

Newer version of the drawing (I simplified things just a little bit)...

Older version...

This is another drawing based on one of my childhood memories. In the drawing, I'm the kid wearing the weird, bear-hoodie thingy (it was in style in those days, in fact, I think it still is).

So, sometimes I'd get together with my buddies, and we'd venture out into the nearby desert. Every once in a while we'd manage to catch eyeball snakes. It was pretty cool. The blind-looking mini-polar bear wearing the red glasses, his name was Baxter, he was especially fascinated with the eyeball snakes. Unfortunately, he got eaten by an eyeball snake on one of our trips. That was kind of a let down.

I could easily write more about my childhood, but I'd like to write about some other topics.

Music Stuff
I have a couple music things I'd like to mention. One of my friends is a great composer. He crafts wonderful amazing songs, and he records everything on his own which I think is super cool. If you get a chance, please check his songs out. Here is a link to his work. I'm sure you will enjoy his music, it's amazing!

I also have another friend (who'dda thunkit!), his name is Dawen Wang, and he is trying to win a music competition. He is a GREAT singer, and he needs votes. So if you can, go to this site and listen to his song and vote for him! If he gets enough votes he will get his song played on the radio! And that will be a huge step for him in his quest to conquer the world.

TV Stuff
In other news, I started watching this show on tv, it's called the Deadliest Catch. It's quite a great show, all about people who go fishing in the Bering Sea. The footage is very impressive... fishing in those waters near Alaska seems like a very dangerous business. Although, I haven't seen any sharks so far, which means the fishing can't be all that dangerous. And now that I think about it, I haven't even seen any crocodiles, nor any barracudas. Nor the most dangerous of all the sea creatures, a creature named Shamu, better known as the killer whale that always has first degree murder on its mind. And I haven't even seen a measly electric eel on this show. I guess this program isn't as scary as I initially thought. Doesn't quite live up to the title. These fisherman mostly spend their time catching crab, and I gotta say, I stopped being scared of that creature when I turned 19, so the fear factor just isn't there for me. Well, I guess if I try hard enough I can be scared of a crab.

In spite of the lack of sharks, crocodiles, and other such dangerous creatures, the Deadliest Catch is good, I recommend watching it. So, if you are ever bored and want to watch people fishing on tv in your spare time, this show is for you. It's on the Discovery Channel.

I Saw a Lizard. Patterns in Nature. Deadly Squirrels. Paris Hilton. Georges Brassens.

Something very important happened the other day. I saw a lizard. I was so sure you wouldn't believe me that I took a picture (the one above). It's a cool little creature, in my opinion, and I like the diamondy pattern on its skin. I hope it doesn't get eaten by a snake.

Speaking of patterns...

I love how nature is made of patterns, very different sorts of patterns, like color patterns, patterns based on shape and form, textural patterns, sound patterns, patterns in movement... and these patterns can be seen in everything, like branches, weather, stars, leaves, grass, animals, clouds, rain, water, trees, etc., etc. I remember someone telling me that paintings of nature were nice and everything, but that really, the truest way to capture nature was through music. And when I look at the natural world, and I see all those patterns, what that person told me made a lot of sense, but at the same time, there really isn't any way to capture the complexity and beauty of the natural world (which is kind of obvious!)...

So, I think we established the fact that I think nature is pretty cool. But it can be pretty evil too. For instance, did you hear about the killer squirrels in Denver? Contrary to those first images that pop into your mind, these squirrels aren't walking around with machetes chopping peoples' heads off. No, the truth is much more terrible. Turns out, these killer squirrels have the plague, aka, the Black Death, and they can transfer it to humans!!! I always knew squirrels were evil, and this evidence only further proves how right I am in fearing these evil, demonic, Black Death giving creatures...

In other news, I was watching one of my favorite channels, E, and I learned that Paris' jail sentence has been reduced to 23 days! I'm not sure how I feel about that... I have to admit, I'm very curious, I'd like to see how much money she's going to be able to be make from her jail stint. Somehow, every thing she does makes her richer.

Lastly, I'm gonna post another French song, Aupres de Mon Arbre by Georges Brassens. It's one of my favorites, very cool song, hope you enjoy it...

Paris Hilton: Going to Jail...

Paris Hilton is headed to the slammer. Really. Truly. No lie. I promise this isn't any of my usual chicanery.

She is going to jail for, get this: 45 days! I know, I know, that's a lot of hard time to serve. I feel sorry for her, but you know who I feel really truly sorry for? Us. The public, the regular folks, you and me, people whose joy absolutely hinges on witnessing her celebrity antics day in and day out.

Paris will be ok. She will be able to entertain herself in jail, I dunno, probably by counting money or snorting coke or doing something awesome like that. But us, how, just how in the hell are we going to entertain ourselves during her jail time? We've always relied on Paris for entertainment, for joy, for happiness. And unlike Paris, we don't have millions of dollars that we can spend our time counting, nor do we have bags of coke lying around. Actually, I did have bags of coke lying around a while back, but my dog found the bags and flushed them down the toilet. That's what I get for owning a German Shepherd, a goddamn crime-fighting superhero police dog...

And you know what the saddest part of all this is? We never truly appreciated how blessed we were when Paris was free and out of jail, able to entertain us with her constant antics, day in and day out, 24/7. We became jaded and blasé, dare I say, we almost had TOO much Paris (but really, we all know that that's impossible!). So, for those 45 days that Paris is locked up, we will come to appreciate her greatness, we will never again take her antics for granted...

And I'm trying to tell myself that there is a glimmer of hope, that I will make it through those 45 days of no Paris. But when I dig deep down inside, I realize, I'm just lying to myself, there really is no hope. We are all going to suffer. I'm scared... and I don't have any coke... I'm sooo screwed.

Well, I'm gonna post a video, it might mitigate your suffering... it's a fun little clip of Anna Karina dancing around, it's really quite great...

Headaches. Sharks in My Yard. Lost Love.

So far today, my head is feeling better. The past 2 weeks have been bad, the headaches aren't the most traumatizing I've ever had, but they are constant and keep me from falling asleep. I have to get soooo tired before I can sink into sleep. But it's ok, I think these headaches have cropped back up because I went through a very stressful period where I was very worried about my mom and her health. And I can be thankful for one thing, the pain isn't near what it used to be...

I'm thankful to be alive. I really am. And I'm so lucky to have loving people in my life. And we have sharks tied up in the backyard, they are pretty cool too, and I think they love me although they don't say it. I think they have a complex, they have a hard time committing and saying the, "I love you Sebastien." They're kind of macho like that. But it's ok, I still tell them I love them. But there are moments where I'm struck with sadness because they can't tell me they love me. It really does hurt.

Speaking of love, it seems like lots of my friends are experiencing difficult situations with their love lives. It makes me sad, I try and talk on the phone with them when I can. You know, give some support, everyone needs someone who understands and can listen. But it's difficult because of my headaches, I can't talk as much or as often as I'd like.

So what are my general thoughts on love? Does love suck, or is it marvelous and awesome? You probably already know what I think... love is the greatest! It can be terrible and agonizing, but it's totally worth it.

Let me leave you with this song clip, La Bise Aux Hippies, it's so funny and great...

Music

My dad gave me this cd to listen to. The daughter of his friend made this album. Her name is Alison Block, the album is called Money and Sex. I was really surprised. It's damn good if you ask me. Great even. There's a couple of songs up on her site. The title track is super. I highly recommend checking her stuff out.

Other news...

I don't know why. I feel like taking pictures of myself lately. Maybe because I don't look as haggard as I used to and I'm happy about that. So here's another pic. You might be able to tell my nose is crooked. I broke it playing basketball. Twice.

Hey, with all these pictures I've put up you'll probably recognize me if you ever run into me! But please, don't sucker punch me in the nose, like I said, it's already crooked.

Uh, and my room is a mess.

Dance

I love these dance scenes. First vid is Fred Astaire. The second is the Nicholas Brothers. Totally mind blowing...

Friday Music Fun. And a Clip From Trainspotting.

I was randomly surfing Youtube. First I found this song I love, it's called 'Sweet Pea.' Fantastic. Shoot, but I can't upload it in this post. Oh well. Anyways. Then I stumbled upon this scene from the movie Trainspotting, one of my favorite scenes of all time, haha it mostly features Begbie! And then thinking of that movie got me thinking about Blondie, and their song Atomic which some band covers in Trainspotting. And then thinking of Blondie made me think of their lead singer who reminds me of France Gall and Francoise Hardy. Who then made me think of Serge Gainsbourg (a total pervert!), who in turn reminded me of Frank Zappa. Did you need to know all that, why of course not! But that's what I'm here for, needless explanations. Uh, and I'm throwing in some other songs that I love, why? Well I suppose just for the hell of it!

Anyways here's some awesome vids:

Trainspotting Scene

Blondie-Atomic

Elton John-Saturday Night

France Gall-Les Sucettes

France Gall-Ali Baba Und Die 40 Rauber

Eazy E-Real Motherfuckin' Gs

Marvin the Squirrel. Joe Jackson Song. HTML Book.

Marvin, the squirrel that lives in my room, is sitting here in the corner of my bedroom playing his mini-piano. He's smoking some camel reds, I think he's mostly doing it for image, like, he thinks it's cool or something... That's ok, because he is busting out some great music. Kinda like this song by Joe Jackson, I posted it at the bottom... I don't really know anything about this musician but I can listen to this song over and over again. So can Marvin, he loves it...

Now, before I keep this a secret any longer, I've been inching my way through this html book. The book is by Ian Lloyd, here's a link that has some info on the book. Now, I only mention this because this book is super-duper, so if any of you need a book to start with and are curious about web design I recommend this one! As most of you already know, I'm trying to reach the ultimate goal of creating a fully-functioning website for my art. Will I succeed? Only time will tell, but maybe Marvin can help me out if I get stuck, he's so freakin' awesome. I once saw him take out two bulldogs with a karate move that was blindingly fast and piledrivingly powerful. The guy is just on a higher level than us mere mortals.

What Movie To See? Gassehnauer Song, Plus Two Music Videos Featuring Zakir Hussain, Plus Art Links

Ok, I don't have much news to report. Hmmm, if I feel ok I think I might see a movie with some friends, either The Departed, but I really want to see the new Bond, or that movie Happy Feet (my sister told me about it, there's like, dancing penguins! Did you know I'm a sucker for animated penguins?!).

Music Stuff
Check out this song over at Stuff on Fire, it's called Gassehnauer. I LOVE IT!

I also found these crazy cool videos on youtube. The first video features the tabla playing Zakir Hussain, accompanied by a guy on Japanese drums. Second video is Zakir Hussain doing a solo.

Art Stuff
If you haven't checked out Bibi's Box yet, you should! She just posted on a couple artists that are worth checking out. The artists include the sculptor Edouard Martinet, and also the mesmerizing work of Marco Guerra and Yasmina Alaoui, who work along the lines of body art that includes intricate arabesque designs, just incredibly beautiful patterns!

Can You Guess The Number I'm Thinking Of? It's Between One and a Million

Probably not, but if you do guess right I'll smoke crack for a year and document the experience via photography and film.

I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm reeaaaaallly bored.

Here's a song that always makes me happy and makes me want to get up and dance!

Oh! And I just discovered this song by a band called Shonen Knife. How awesome is this...

Simpsons en Espanol, the Digable Planets in English, and Theo Jansen

1. LANGUAGE PRACTICE FOR THE DAY
Mira este video de los Simpsons, es uno de mis favoritos. Es la primera vez que miro los Simpsons en una otra lengua que ingles. Me gusta!!! Hay otros Simpsons en espanol a youtube. Tambien quiero descubrir videos de los Simpsons en frances!

2. MUSIC FOR THE DAY
Back to English. Here's a song by the Digable Planets that I ran across on youtube. I've never seen it before, I really like the way it's shot, and the song is just great.

3. LINK FOR THE DAY(ART RELATED)
Norwoodmatt posted a great video at his blog. It's actually a BMW commercial featuring a kinetic sculpture by Theo Jansen. Very impressive. I found some photos of his work at this site.

Notes: I'm not even going to get into how I've been feeling this past week, but it's been rough :(

They Might be Giants and Meow Mix

Sometimes this band is annoying, and sometimes they are perfect. I think this is one of their perfect songs. I also like their crane song, I only heard it once or twice but I have never been able to get it out of my head. That song is stuck in my head just like those meow meow commercials where the cat sings, "I want chicken, I want liver, meow mix, meow mix please deliver..." Those advertising people really know what they are doing, God knows I don't want a frikkin cat jingle stuck in my head yet there it is.

I have been fully entertained today...

Since about yesterday I've felt more energetic, more awake, yet paradoxically I still feel tired(not to complain). But, the good part is, I can actually go on the computer again and do fun stuff(punch in the face for all of you thinking porn), and I can finally concentrate enough to read my book again!

I watched a ton of Ali G on youtube, haha that guy is the greatest. I love the interview he does with the FBI guy, absolutely classic. Oh, and I found this music video a while back. I love this, very catchy and fun. I don't know why, but I just realized all this stuff is British.

Cat Power

This song just blew my mind. Not sure if there's much point in posting this, since I'm behind the loop on this band, but I will do it anyways.

OH....MY.....GOD!!! I've been blinded by my dazzling genius! This band has everything to do with that previous post about Kitlers, because this band is called CAT POWER! Those Nazi cats are drawing inspiration from this malevolent band. It all makes sense...

Stiff Little Fingers-Suspect Device

This is a great song by a good band. I luuuuuvvee the fashion. Wuuhheerre did you find those cut up t-shirts, so sexy and anti-establishment. I better check to see if they carry those hot shirts at Neiman Marcus.

Khod Breaker

I randomly came across this video(come to think of it, I guess everything on the internet is pretty random). I really wanted to write this video off when it began. Set-up: Two very very nerdy looking white guys, rapping in French, plus a terrible beginning(funny bad though). Could you imagine a better recipe for disaster? But once they get going, against all odds, it ain't half bad.

Alizee

Who is Alizee? A very pretty French girl who sings... Kind of silly songs, but they are fun. The pop factory is working strong, not just in the US, but as I've been discovering via Youtube, in many places: France, Japan, South Korea, China, etc., etc...

Super Mario Brothers

This video is of a guy playing the Super Mario Bros. song on guitar, watch at your own risk. I haven't been able to get this song out of my head since first watching it. Very cool though.

Cue pretentious literary reference right....NOW!!!: The Mario Bros. song sets off a flood of memories in my mind that is comparable to what the madeleine cake does for Proust and his own memories and remembrance of times past.

Deerhoof Music Video

What a great band! I discovered some free, legal downloads of their music at this post that links to Deerhoof's website and mp3's.
